Call me a nerd, a geek, whatever, but I love books.  No program on my computer could ever replace what it’s like to hold an actual book in my hands.  What makes it even better is that I have been given the opportunity to not only have access to books but to be able to read and understand its content.

A book is one of the most selfless object that exist today.  It doesn’t demand any electricity or power, it simply requires a shelf–and what it gives in return for being cared for outweighs any sort of “inconvenience” its physical presence may cause.

It doesn’t ask for payments or a favour in exchange for the knowledge you gain.  It doesn’t have any monthly fees (unless you got yourself a book fine on your hands) and its pages has probably seen countless readers and fingertips that have sifted through its contents.

A book could symbolize a moment, an era, an emotion, even something life-changing.

A book is an opportunity.  Perhaps a traditional form of learning but nonetheless a significant player in knowledge expansion and seeking–do not disregard their offering, you would be putting yourself at a disadvantage.

What makes the world go ’round? April 20, 2010

We’ve all heard it: “Money makes the world go ’round” but I question; is that really so?

WHY do we LET money make the world go ’round? Because essentially, it’s us (humans) who are supposedly the more “superior” (and I use this word lightly) of species on Earth right now who makes the idea of money so important.  But WHY do we make it important?

Because we LOVE money, don’t we? I find it hard to believe when someone tells me they don’t like it when they’re wallet, purse, or better yet, your bank account doesn’t have a healthy amount of funds in it.  We love the fact that we are able to make purchases after we’ve paid our bills.

So if I were to ever be asked: “Is it Money or Love that makes the world go ’round?”..well..I think I’ve made that choice pretty obvious :-p

What do you think?

Those first 3 minutes April 13, 2010

It might just be me and my out-of-shapeness (Yeah, I made up a word) but every time I get on the treadmill I find the first 3 minutes of running to be the most difficult to get through and then I get in my zone, until my body snaps out of it and starts feeling a little worn out.

So why am I telling you about the first 3 minutes on the treadmill being difficult? I’m sure you can guess, if not, I will tell you:

You gotta push through stuff, if you don’t, you’ll never know what it’s like to enjoy the fruits of your labour.  Of course when you start something new you WILL be faced with difficulties but what’s the point of life when you don’t meet those challenges head on? What will you accomplish if you don’t?

Haven’t you heard? The best things in life are created through the most difficult of situations.

Push through the first 3 minutes–you’ll be happy you did.

People can sense it a mile away…

If you have lost or lack passion in whatever it is you’re doing, it’s going to show up in your work.

If you feel like you’re losing or have lost interest in whatever direction your life is going, be sure to pause and look around you.  Take a good hard look at your life and figure out the discrepancies that exist in the life and/or career you want and the life and/or career you currently have.

Do not be discouraged by the possibility of having to make a few sacrifices (ie: pay cuts) because really, if you’re doing something you love, there’s gonna be something inside you that’s going to drive you until you reach your  ideal point of success.

Has this happened to you?

The Road… April 7, 2010

I haven’t written a random blog in quite a while and was missing it so today, I’m going to keep it light.

While I was driving in to work this morning, I realized that our behaviour on the road actually has connections to life (this sounds crazy, I know, I’ll explain).

Let me show you:

Lesson #1:

Do not lead a lane just because the opportunity to lead is open–save it for someone who will ensure the flow of traffic doesn’t go too fast or too slow for everyone who follows.

Lesson # 2:

Do not cut someone off only to hold them back.  Just because someone has sped up quick enough to get in front of you doesn’t mean that you should then drive twice as slow only to frustrate the person you’ve cut off.

Lesson # 3:

Sometimes rules are meant to be broken, but just don’t break them unless the intent behind it is to do something positive.

Lesson # 4:

The more you familiarize yourself with your routs/neighbourhood, the better you can navigate yourself should you get stuck in some traffic.

So you see, believe it or not, there are lessons to be learned via the road.

Am I missing anything? Can you think of something that might be applicable?
