We sometimes make ourselves prisoners in our own lives via responsibilities and commitments.

We become so accustomed to seeing the world from one angle that we eventually forget that there are other viewpoints we’re missing out on.  Beautiful ones at that.

When you graduate from College or University, do you think about getting a job half way across the world or to stay in the same city you studied in? When you become unemployed, do you look for opportunities in the same city or do you look outside of it?

There are different worlds all around us, but sometimes we forget that there is.  When we remember that there are cultures and other opportunities that await us, it can be overwhelming, but I encourage you to embrace that, for a moment at least, but at least then, you’re allowing yourself to open up to other possibilities.

Admittedly, this post is a little selfish because I two, forgot, that there’s a whole other world out there.

The world.  Earth.  It is your oyster.  Think about why you have remained in the same place all these years.  Are those reasons enough to keep you there for the rest of your life?

…but be sure to give things a real true shot before you discard what’s in front of you.

I get why we want to be able to make decisions and conclusions quickly.  Time is of the essence.  But you never know what exactly you’re letting go if you don’t give it a chance.  A real, true chance.

…at least give it an extra day if you can afford it.

My desk was never this clean

I’m a YorkU grad, student, and staff member.

I’ve got a love/hate relationship going with it.

The last time I peaced out at York was my graduation and it was more of a “good riddance” kind of feeling.  This time around though, it’s pretty bitter-sweet.

Imagine having to leave your prefect job.

Not because you were let go, but because it wasn’t stable.  And there came a point in your life where you had to choose between growing up or not.

I got to that point.

Don’t get me wrong, my definition of “growing up” isn’t to be a boring adult, but having gained so many experiences at York, it was time for me to say, maybe not goodbye (because I have other tricks up my sleeve) but a see-ya later.

I’m moving from my perfect job to an opportunity at Humber College.  I’m excited and not only the role but the department is super promising.  I’m nervous though.  I thought about my situation and this was the best analogy I could think of:

Imagine you’re with the partner who is perfect for you and you’ve given it your all but there’s something holding your partner back from reciprocating.  Eventually, you get worn out and someone else comes along to offer you the very thing your current partner cannot seem to give you.

So while I’ve cleaned up my desk and prepared as much as I can for the new person to take over my perfect job (I’m not bitter), I’d like to say to York and to my perfect job:

It’s never goodbye with us, only a see ya later.

I have no issue calling you on your shit.

Even when you tell me you’ve looked at my blog and done research on me.  That’s going to do anything for you.

Don’t bullshit me.  Worse move ever.

Yours truly

, I hope to be the person I’m supposed to be.

Whoever that is.  I think I have an idea.
